Join the Poppy Project!

Knit or Crochet a Poppy and decorate Great Torrington Town & Community Hall to commemorate the First World War and the conflicts that followed it.

Patterns and wool will be available from Sue in Crafty Needles or Town & Community Hall. You can either come to Rosie’s Knit & Natter sessions which take place at the Town Hall every Wednesday from 10am to noon or you can knit/crochet at home. We’re hoping as many people as possible will take part so we can bring some Personal Poppy Pride to Torrington.

AFTERNOON TEA DANCES RETURN TO GREAT TORRINGTON TOWN & COMMUNITY HALL FOLLOWING A 60 YEAR BREAK!

Donna who runs Riverside Bideford Restaurant in Landcross near Bideford and outside catering business, Chef Duet is no stranger to organising afternoon teas and says, ‘The afternoon cream teas that we serve at Riverside are always a lot of fun and the old-fashioned war songs that we play to create an ambience invariably has customers wanting to get up and dance. Unfortunately, space at Riverside is limited, so to have the opportunity to use such a majestic room in Torrington Town & Community Hall will be for a fabulous to expand what we do at Riverside and cater for larger groups of people.

Donna is hoping that visitors to the first, of what she hopes will be regular afternoon tea dances, dress up and embrace the vintage theme that she will be creating with vintage tea settings and vintage music and adds: ‘Tables of four, six or 10 are available or individuals can come along and share a table. The afternoon is about enjoying quality food, listening and dancing to great music, making friends and having fun and everyone will be made to feel very welcome.’

The afternoon high tea which includes delicious sandwiches, savoury quiches, cream tea, a selection of home-made chocolate, carrot, Victoria sponge and lemon cakes and a selection of desserts will cost £15 per person and £7.50 per child 12 years and under.

To book a table or individual ticket, please call Donna on 01237 459203 or pop into the Torrington Town & Community Hall.

Town Hall shortlisted

Trewin Design have entered our Town Hall in a prestigious competition and we are one of the finalists in the Preservation and Rejuvenation Category.  See the awards website here:  http://www.buildswawards.org.uk/2019-finalists/ for a full list of finalists. David Tithecott of Trewin Design has told us that we should be very proud of this as we were up against some huge projects costing millions, so to even get on the shortlist is marvellous. The final result will be available by the middle of June.
